3 Army jawans injured as two separate encounters underway in Jammu and Kashmir

Three Indian Army paratroopers were injured during an ongoing encounter in the forested Chaas area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar on Sunday, an official said. Meanwhile, another encounter broke out in Srinagar’s Harwan area, marking the latest in a series of attacks that have rocked Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks.
Members of cross-border terrorist groups, suspected of killing two Village Defence Guards on November 18 in the same area, are believed to be trapped in the encounter. The gunfight began after the Indian Army, along with 11 Rashtriya Rifles, launched a massive operation against the terrorists.
In Srinagar, a gunfight erupted around 9 am in the forest area between Dachigam and the upper reaches of Nishat during a cordon and search operation launched after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. No casualties have been reported so far.
“A joint police and security forces operation was launched in Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. An exchange of fire ensued during the operation. Further details will follow,” Jammu and Kashmir tweeted.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed multiple gunfights and terrorist attacks in recent weeks, resulting in the deaths of several terrorists and security personnel.
On Saturday, a terrorist was killed and two to three others were trapped in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore. The security forces were on a search operation when the terrorists fired at them. In the retaliatory firing, one of the terrorists was killed.
On Friday, November 8, in a separate encounter, two terrorists were also killed in Baramulla. This also took place during an anti-terror combing operation, based on intelligence input.
Three terrorists, including wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) ‘commander’ Usman Lashkari, were killed in two separate anti-militancy operations in Kashmir on November 2. Two policemen and two CRPF jawans were also injured in the operation.
In another terrorist attack on November 8, two Village Defence Group (VDG) members were kidnapped and killed in Kishtwar district. An offshoot of the Jaish-e Mohammad terrorist organisation, called the ‘Kashmir tigers,’ claimed the responsibility of the attack.
Meanwhile, in view of the increased terrorist activities, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the prevailing security situation in Kathua district on Saturday.
